Xiaomi India Sells 100 million Smartphones in India: Mi Pay Secures 18 million Users in Five Months

Xiaomi today announced that it has shipped over 100 million smartphones in India in five years. This milestone has been achieved in the period starting Q3 2014 until July 2019 as per IDC 2019 reports. With this achievement, Xiaomi becomes one of the first brands to achieve this milestone in five years of operation. According to Xiaomi, the Redmi A-series and the Redmi Note series have been two of the most popular smartphone series which have significantly contributed to this feat.

As per the IDC Xiaomi is also leading the smartphone brand in India for eight consecutive quarters with a 28.31% market share for Q2 2019. The Redmi 6A and Redmi Note 7 Pro are the top two best-selling smartphones in the industry for Q2 2019. As a part of the celebration, Xiaomi has also released a short film to celebrate its latest milestone featuring several Xiaomi employees across corporate, logistics, warehouse, after-sales.

Alongside 100 million smartphone shipments, Xiaomi’s recently announced Mi Pay service secures more than 18 million users in a span of five months. According to Xiaomi, the Mi Pay app has gained 14 million registered users and 1.4 million UPI IDs created on Mi Pay within five months of launch. The brand also confirmed that about ₹200 crore worth transactions have been done on the Mi Pay app and 90% Mi Pay users in India used the payment app primarily to transfer funds to friends & family.

Celebrating the occasion, Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India exclaimed, “It’s indeed a joyous occasion for us at Xiaomi India. It’s a testament to the love we have received from millions of Mi Fans since our inception. There have been brands who entered the market before us, yet are nowhere close to the astounding feat we have achieved.”
