WatchOut WearPods Smartwatch Review: An Impressive Smartwatch with Built-in TWS Earbuds

India’s leading kids’ smartwatch brand, WatchOut Wearables, has expanded its offerings to cater to Gen Z with the debut of its latest innovation, the WatchOut WearPods smartwatch. More than just your average smartwatch, it features built-in earbuds, eliminating the need to carry separate ones while on the move. WatchOut claims that this is the first smartwatch in India with built-in TWS earbuds. Having tested this smartwatch extensively over the past few days, here’s my in-depth review.

In the Box

The WearPods come in a square box and include a smartwatch with pre-attached straps, a user manual, a welcome card, a pair of eartips, and a charging cable.

WatchOut WearPods Package

WearPods Design & Display

Despite incorporating numerous features, the WatchOut has not compromised in the design. Crafted from a blend of metal, polycarbonate, and ABS, the watch exudes solidity and premium aesthetics. Additionally, the watch glass is seamlessly embedded within a steel housing, enhancing its durability and protection. Furthermore, the display glass is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, enhancing its durability even further.

WearPods Design

Notably, the WearPods stand out for their integrated TWS earbuds, neatly housed on the right side of the smartwatch. Each earbud, secured by magnets, resides in its own designated slot, ensuring a secure fit. Both earbuds also feature touch sensors to perform multiple actions such as Play/Pause, Change music tracks, and Control volume. Each earbud is also equipped with LED indicators that inform you whether the buds are charging or the battery is full.

WearPods TWS Earbuds

Two easily accessible buttons are mounted on the corners of the watch’s frame. The top left corner houses a silver-colored Menu button that supports multiple functions. When pressed, it displays a list of installed apps, while a long press can be configured to trigger two activities. You can configure it to initiate instant voice recording or enable an accessibility feature like voice feedback that tells the current time.

At the bottom left corner, there’s a power button that lets you turn the screen on or off, Turn On/off the watch, and quickly return to the main screen. The button is painted red, enhancing the look of the watch. Also, there’s a microphone on the left side and a speaker at the bottom. The speaker might be a bit hard to see because the watch band covers it.

Multiple sensors dedicated to health tracking are located on the watch’s rear side. Additionally, there’s a magnetic charging point where you can easily connect the charging cable.

WearPods Sensors

The smartwatch has a 1.93-inch IPS HD display with a resolution of 240×296 Pixels and supports always-on display (AOD). The display colors are bright and vibrant, ensuring clear visibility in almost any lighting condition. The display is highly responsive and swiftly registers user input without any delay. I did not observe any ghost touch or mistouch issue. Overall, the user interface is smooth and seamless.

WearPods HD Display

The display also offers support for Always-on-display, which can be configured in the Watch settings. It features two modes: Number and Pointer. In Number mode, the AOD shows the time, day, and date, while in Pointer mode, it displays an analog clock with a moving seconds hand.

While Number mode is simple, displaying essential information, the Pointer mode adds a stylish touch. The analog clock, with white minute and hour hands accompanied by a moving red seconds hand, enhances the overall appearance of the display, giving it a neat and sophisticated look. Regardless of the smartwatch brand, Always-on-display (AOD) typically consumes battery power. However, in WearPods, the implementation of Always-on-display differs slightly.

WearPods Analog AOD

The AOD feature activates automatically when the screen turns off. Here’s the catch: if you manually turn off the screen, the AOD won’t activate. It only turns on when the screen automatically turns off based on the Screen-off time you’ve set (e.g., 10/30/60 seconds) in the watch settings. The significant advantage here is battery life. If you don’t want the AOD feature, you simply need to press the power button to temporarily disable it without needing to change any settings.

Another highly beneficial battery-saving feature is the implementation of Screen-to-wake with instant screen off. While many smartwatches support Raise to Wake, where the screen turns on automatically when you raise your hand or bring it in front of your face, it typically remains on for a couple of seconds after you lower your hand before turning off. In WearPods, however, the screen instantly turns on when you bring your hand in front of your face, and it immediately turns off when you lower your hand. This quick response helps conserve some battery compared to other watches.

The display also offers manual brightness control through a 5-point slider. After testing it in various lighting conditions, I didn’t encounter any issues. Even under direct sunlight, the display remains readable when set to its lowest brightness. Operating the watch with the lowest brightness setting can further extend battery life. While the display does come with an oil-resistant coating to prevent fingerprints, during my testing, I observed that the display still attracts fingerprints, although they are not very visible. However, this doesn’t affect its usability, and the fingerprints can be easily wiped off.

The watch has removable high-quality silicone straps. They feel soft and premium, with a smooth finish on the back and a textured pattern on the front that adds to the watch’s look. Secured with a metallic buckle, the straps come with two free loops for added security. Plus, there are plenty of holes in the straps for you to adjust them as needed for the most comfortable fit. Wearing the straps for extended periods hasn’t caused any irritation.

The watch is also IP67 water and dust-resistant, safeguarding it against accidental spills, splashes, and rain. Overall, the watch’s quality is excellent and justifies its pricing. However, the watch is water-resistant but not waterproof. Therefore, ensure the earphone charging case stays dry. Additionally, both the watch and earphone are not suitable for deep diving or prolonged submersion in water. The watch is also not resistant to hot water, so avoid using the watch during baths and swimming.

Connecting the Watch to the Phone

WearPods support Bluetooth 5.1 and have a standard wireless range of 10 meters. They are compatible with Android devices running Android 7.0 or later and iPhones running iOS 11.0 or later. To set up and configure the watch, you’ll need to download the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. To connect the Wearpods to your phone:

  • Download the V Band app on your phone.
  • Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone.
  • Turn on Bluetooth on the WearPods. Swipe down on the home screen and tap on the Bluetooth icon to turn On the watch’s Bluetooth.
  • Open the V Band app and grant the necessary permissions.
  • Tap on the “My Watch” tab at the bottom.
  • Tap on “Add Device“. The app will begin scanning for nearby WearPod smartwatches. Select the watch from the list.

Tap “Confirm” on the popup to proceed with pairing the watch to the app. That’s all! The watch is now linked to the V Band app. You’ll also notice the status displayed as “Connected” just below the WatchOut branding.

One of the app’s highlights is that no sign-up is necessary. Simply download the app, pair the watch, and you’re good to go. Now, head to the “Find” tab at the bottom and input some additional information like gender, height, body weight, and target steps. This step is entirely optional.

Connecting WearPods TWS to Your Phone

You can pair the built-in TWS to the watch to listen to songs stored in the watch’s internal memory or connect to your phone just like a regular TWS.

  • Remove the earbuds from the watch.
  • Access the Bluetooth settings on your phone.
  • Tap “Add device” and search for “WatchOut EarbudAudio L/R“.
  • Select the listing to pair the earphones with the watch.

These earbuds feature Instant Pair functionality. Once successfully paired with your phone, they will automatically connect to the last paired device when removed from their slot next time. Additionally, these earphones are equipped with touch sensors on both earbuds, allowing you to perform the following actions.

Single tapAnswer/hang up the call
Single tap (During music playback)Previous/next song
Double clickPause/Play
Triple tapVolume up/down
Tap four timesWake-up voice assistant

The earbuds also support Mono mode, allowing you to use just one earbud if needed. When you place the single earbud back in its slot, it turns off automatically and enters the charging state. Additionally, the watch provides voice feedback when the volume reaches 100%, and when it is paired with a phone etc. The design of these earbuds is quite different from other earbuds. These buds are slightly square compared to the usual oval shape.

They fit properly inside the ear canal and provide a comfortable fit. I tried these buds during walking, jogging, and even on the treadmill, and they never fell out. When it comes to audio quality, these earbuds deliver loud audio with clear vocals and no distortion, even at higher volume levels. The bass is good, never overpowering, and the overall quality of the music output is very impressive.

WatchOut WearPods Features

Make and Receive Voice Calls on the Watch

The WearPods feature a built-in speaker and microphone, enabling you to make voice calls directly from the watch when connected over Bluetooth. To activate this feature, you’ll need to pair your watch with the WearPods via your phone.

  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your watch.
  • Go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and tap “Add device“.
  • Search for “WatchOut WatchAudio” and pair it. Once paired, you make and receive voice calls directly from the watch.
WearPods Dialpad

After pairing, open the dialer on your watch and either enter the number manually or select it from your contact list. You can store up to 200 contacts in the smartwatch via the V Band App. The Dialpad on the watch is responsive, with large numbers that make typing numbers effortless.

Additionally, there is a dedicated app called “Call Records” where you can conveniently check all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls. I’ve made multiple voice calls using the WearPods smartwatch and am quite satisfied with the experience. The voice quality is clear, and the microphone sensitivity is good. Just remember to keep your phone nearby, as calls may disconnect if the phone is out of range.

Built-in Internal Storage for Music

Another useful feature of the WearPods is the integrated internal storage. Alongside its built-in True Wireless Stereo (TWS) capability, the brand has thoughtfully provided 4GB of on-device storage for storing your favorite music files. This means that even when you don’t have your phone with you, you can stream songs directly from your smartwatch and listen either through the loudspeaker or using the built-in TWS functionality. The WearPods come with three modes – Watch Music, Mobile Music, and Headphone Music.

WearPods Music Mode
  • Watch Music: When the watch is set to Watch mode, music is output through the watch’s speaker. This means that if you play music on the watch, it will be output via the watch’s speaker.
  • Mobile Music: When the watch is connected to your phone (Bluetooth is connected – WatchOut WatchAudio), if you play music or video on the phone, the audio will come from the watch speaker.
  • Headphone Music: In this mode, you need to pair the True Wireless Stereo (TWS) device to the watch. You can connect both the built-in TWS and any third-party TWS to the watch. Once you pair the TWS, you can play the music files stored on your watch, and the sound will be outputted through the TWS.
WearPods Music Player
Sports Modes

The watch offers over 100+ sports modes. Since it doesn’t support automatic activity detection, you’ll need to manually select the appropriate sports mode before starting your activity. Once the activity begins, you can view real-time stats directly on the watch. For instance, if you choose the Walking mode, you can monitor the number of steps taken, calories burned, and heart rate directly on the watch.

WearPods Sports Modes

Some of the sports modes supported on WearPods include Walk, Run, Climb, Cycling, Basketball, Badminton, Yoga, Tennis, Football, Skipping, Treadmill, Archery, Baseball, Chess, Dumbbell, Javelin, Ice Hockey, Karate, Sit-ups, Dance, and more. The watch also includes built-in GPS, allowing you to track the total distance covered, speed, total calories burned, etc. You can also check the track of the MAP on the phone.

Multiple Health Tracking Sensors

The watch supports multiple health-tracking features, such as continuous heart rate, sleep, blood pressure, and blood sugar tracking.

WearPods Health Features

Blood Oxygen (SpO2): Open the Blood Oxygen app on the watch to measure the oxygen saturation level in your blood.

WearPods SPO2 Tracking

Blood Pressure (BP) Monitoring: The BP app on the WearPods enables you to measure your blood pressure. You’ll receive the reading in approximately 20 seconds directly on the watch. Additionally, you can review the reading on the V Band app.

WearPods BP Tracking

Blood Sugar Monitoring: The watch also allows you to measure blood sugar levels using the Blood Sugar app, just as with blood pressure monitoring.

Heart Rate Monitoring: The watch offers continuous heart rate monitoring. To activate the heart rate sensor, simply open the Heart Rate app on the watch. Once the app is opened, the watch will begin measuring your heart rate. You can view real-time heart rate data directly on the screen and access historical data through the V Band app. Additionally, you have the option to trigger heart rate monitoring directly from the app.

WearPods Heart Rate Measurement

You can also configure the watch to track your heart rate at regular intervals, which can be set up through the V Band app. This feature allows you to choose intervals ranging from 10 minutes to 60 minutes. It’s important to note that continuous heart rate monitoring may drain the battery more quickly. The watch doesn’t support abnormal heart rate alerts, so you won’t receive notifications if your heart rate exceeds the safe limit or a preset value.

To cross-check the accuracy of the health tracking sensors, I compared the WearPods with both the GOQii Smart Vital Ultra and the Amazfit Bip 3 Pro. I conducted tests for heart rate measurement and step counting simultaneously on both watches, and the results were nearly identical.

Breath Exercise: Upon opening the Breath app on the watch and initiating it, you’ll be guided through inhalation and exhalation. It also provides haptic feedback, eliminating the need to check the watch constantly during exercises. While inhaling, the watch provides continuous vibrations that stop during exhalation. This means you can inhale when the watch vibrates and start exhaling when the vibration stops. This feature is beneficial, allowing you to engage in breathing exercises without needing to glance at the watch constantly.

Sleep Tracking: The watch supports sleep tracking, recording both the hours slept and the quality of sleep. You can access this data directly from the watch and also through the V Band app. It’s important to wear the smartwatch properly before sleeping to ensure accurate tracking. From the app, you can review all your sleep data, including daily, weekly, and monthly insights presented in chart format.

WearPods Sleep Tracker

This allows you to monitor both the quality and duration of your sleep, and you can also delve into historical records for further analysis. Sleep tracking on the WearPods is automatic, requiring no manual intervention. The watch will enable sleep tracking automatically every day at 9:00 PM.

Audio Recording

The watch includes a built-in recording app, allowing you to capture any sound directly from the watch itself. Simply open the recorder app on the watch and tap the record button to start recording instantly. Swipe the screen to the left to view and play the recording. The recording will be saved on the watch’s internal memory, and you can transfer it to your PC or laptop if needed.

Weather

The watch automatically syncs weather data from the connected phone on a regular basis. This feature cannot be manually set and requires pairing the watch with the phone via the V band app.

WearPods Weather App
Voice Assistant

You can trigger your phone’s voice assistant directly from the watch. Simply open the Voice Control feature and tap on the screen to invoke the voice assistant. To use this feature, the watch must be in “Mobile Music” mode with “WatchOut WatchAudio” connected to your phone.

Lock the Watch with a Password

Just like your smartphone, you can add protection to your watch to prevent unauthorized use when not worn on your wrist. The watch comes with a Lock Screen feature where you can set a numerical password to lock the watch. Whenever you press the Menu or Sleep/Wake button, the watch will ask for a password. This is a very useful feature not found in most smartwatches. You can also change the password anytime from the Lock settings. Just make sure to remember the password, or you won’t be able to access the watch.

WearPods Lock Screen Password Settings
Built-in Games

The watch also comes with two preloaded games – Jigsaw Puzzle and Tetris. You can access these games from the watch’s menu.

Dedicated Useful Apps
  • Social media apps: Dedicated apps to check Messages, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp notifications.
  • GPS App: Check the GPS coordinates right from the watch.
  • App QR Code: You can add QR codes to the app using the V Bank app. For instance, you can add a QR code for GPay or PhonePe. When you open the App QR code feature, the QR code is displayed on the screen for easy access.
  • Other Apps: Stopwatch, Calculator, Alarm Clock, Find Phone, Calendar, Trajectory, and Activity.
WearPods Settings

Apart from the several preloaded apps, the watch also allows you to fine-tune some settings to enhance the user experience. Below are the settings available on the WearPods.

  • Bluetooth: Toggle Bluetooth on or off. Turning off Bluetooth when not needed can help conserve battery life.
  • Languages: Change the language settings on the watch.

  • SOS: Enable or disable the SOS feature.
  • About: View device version, MAC address, audio version, sensor info, and voltage.
Downloadable Watch Faces

The watch comes with several preloaded watch faces that you can switch between directly from the watch. Additionally, it includes a Watch Face library where you can download hundreds of watch faces from the cloud using the V Band app. You can access all Watch Face-related features in the Dial Library section of the V Band app, which is divided into three sections.

  • Dial Library: This section contains over 100 watch faces. Simply tap on the desired watch face to download it from the cloud and transfer it to the watch.
  • Wallpaper: A customizable watch face that allows you to add your photo, change dial types, and adjust colors.
  • Wallpaper Gallery: Here, you can download hundreds of wallpapers from the collection to personalize your watch face even further.

When you select a watch face, it will take approximately 15 to 20 seconds to transfer it to your watch. The library offers both analog and digital watch faces for selection. You can download up to two watch faces to the phone. If you download a third watch face, it will replace the first downloaded watch face automatically.

WearPods App: V Band App UI

The V Band app is used to set up and configure the watch. The watch has a pretty basic interface and lacks a modern UI. I did not experience any issues with connectivity; every time I turned on the Bluetooth, the watch instantly connected to the V Band app. Once connected, the app syncs the data from the watch.

WearPods Charging and Battery Life

The WatchOut WearPods come with a substantial 400mAh battery. Additionally, each earbud includes a 35mAh battery. The watch’s battery capacity is comparatively higher due to the presence of earbuds. When you insert the earbuds back into their slot after use, the watch automatically charges them.

WearPods Charging

Therefore, a portion of the watch’s battery is utilized to charge the earbuds. As a result, the battery life of the watch depends on how much you use the earbuds daily. According to the specifications, fully charged earbuds can provide up to 10 hours of music playtime. During testing, the earbuds provided an approximate battery life of 7 hours. As for the watch, you can expect around one and a half days of battery life, even with heavy music usage, Bluetooth voice calls, Always-on-display, and Raise-to-Wake enabled.

Charging the watch from 1% to 100% took approximately 120 minutes during testing, which is quite impressive considering the larger 400mAh battery capacity. Furthermore, the brand claims that the watch is capable of providing 25 days of battery life, although this couldn’t be verified during our testing due to time constraints. However, based on the regular battery graph, the watch should provide at least 15 days of standby time with most battery-consuming features, such as Raise-to-wake, Bluetooth, etc., turned off.

WearPods Opinion

WatchOut WearPods smartwatch stands out from others on the market with its unique features. It offers more than just a typical smartwatch, with built-in TWS, 4GB of storage for music, instant voice recording, and a premium, durable design. While you could purchase a smartwatch and TWS separately for nearly half the price of this smartwatch, the key feature here is portability.

WearPods Smartwatch

Although it may seem pricier on paper, once you begin using it, your opinion might change. The watch boasts multiple health tracking features, including BP and sugar monitoring, along with good quality music output, a highly durable design, premium aesthetics, and built-in storage for music. If portability, durability, and comprehensive features are what you seek, this smartwatch is a compelling option to consider.
