pTron Tangent Urban design & features
The Neckband of these earphones is made of a premium Silicone material that sits comfortably on the neck. The Neckband is flexible and very light in weight. The soft Neckband can be bent into any shape, and you can safely keep it in your pockets. The Neckband’s ends are made of metal and house the battery and circuitry.
Both band ends are finished in matte black and include silver accents to enhance the looks. These earphones are IPX4 certified and protect from sweat, accidental splash, and spills. The silicone material attracts dirt easily, but you can wipe it off using your hands. You’ll find an inline controller on the one end of the band that includes three buttons – Volume Down, Multi-function Button (MFB), and Volume Up.
The buttons on the controller are quite noisy but responsive. There is also a small LED indicator on the controller that flashes red and blue and tells you about the status of the earphones like:
- Turns Red when charging and turns Blue once the charging is done.
- Flashing red and blue indicates the earphone is pairing.
- Slowly flashes blue, indicating it is connected to a device.
- Flashes Red once when you power off the device.
On the right side of the controller, you’ll find a USB-C port that allows you to charge the earphones. Most earphones come with a flap or a cover to protect the USB port from dust. However, pTron Tangent earphones don’t include the flap for the USB port. So, the port attracts the dust quickly, and you’ll have to clean it regularly.
A single Microphone is placed on the rear side of the controller, which is good enough to make regular voice calls. However, due to the lack of Dual microphones, you might need to talk loudly while traveling or in a crowded place. I have made multiple Voice calls, and people on the other end didn’t report any issues.
Overall, the voice output is average but not bad. Another notable feature of the neckband is the ‘Number announcement’. For example, if you’re listening to music and you get a voice call, these earphone gives you voice feedback – ‘Incoming call’ and also announce the number.
These earphones come with 10mm dynamic drives with built-in Magnets to keep the earbuds attached when not in use. The magnets are strong and don’t easily separate even when working out, running, jogging, or on the treadmill. Both earbuds include a metal casing and sit comfortably inside the ears.
During my testing, I have not experienced any discomfort or irritation. However, make sure you have the right eartips for a comfortable fit. There are three sets of eartips, including the one attached to the earphones.
Although the quality of the cables used is good, pTron has used a different quality cable at both ends. The end with the connector has a thicker cable, and another end has a slightly thinner cable. Also, these earphones don’t include ear hooks like the one you find in Wings Elevate (review).
These earphones also support voice feedback, and you’ll get voice notifications for many operations. For example, when you turn ON/Off the earphones, you’ll get voice feedback as ‘Power On’ and ‘Power Off’, respectively. Similarly, you’ll get a voice prompt as ‘pTron BT is connected’ when connected to a device. Furthermore, these earphones also give a sound prompt if the battery is low.
These earphones are powered by proprietary AptSense technology and offer 50ms low-latency while watching a movie or playing games. By default, the earphones are set to Music mode, and you can switch to ‘Movie & Gaming Mode’ by pressing MFB 3 times consecutively. You will also hear a voice prompt ‘Movie & Gaming Mode On’.
Again press MFB 3 times consecutively again to turn off the mode, and you will hear a voice prompt ‘Movie & Gaming Mode Off’. The low-latency mode works fine, and I have not observed voice sync issues while watching a video or movie.
pTron Tangent Urban battery
These earphones are backed by a 400mAh Lithium-polymer battery and support fast charging. According to pTron, these earbuds can offer a battery life of up to 60 hours on a single charge. Additionally, these earphones support fast charging, and you’ll get about 4 hours of music with just 20 minutes of charging.
I was not able to test battery life due to the time limitations. However, I have used the earphones for around 3 hours, and the battery was reduced to about 5% with a 70% volume level which is very impressive. Of course, the battery life depends on various factors such as battery level, number of phone calls, etc. Typical usage may not give you 60 hours of battery life, but you can expect at least 50 hours of music playtime with up to 70% volume.
pTron Tangent Urban connectivity
The pTron Tangent Urban is powered by Bluetooth 5.3 and has a wireless range of up to 10 meters. One of the key highlights of these earphones is Dual-device pairing. It’s a handy feature that allows you to connect these earphones to two different devices at the same time. This means you can connect the earphones to a smartphone and a laptop at the same time.
For example, you are watching a movie on your laptop, and suddenly you receive a call on your phone. In such situations, these headphones detect the call on your phone, allow you to answer the call quickly, and switch back to the video when the call is finished. To setup Dual-device paring:
- Turn on your neckband earphones.
- Pair the Neckband with device 1 (Ex: Phone).
- After that, disconnect it from device one. Do not unpair; instead, disconnect it.
- Now, pair the Neckband with device 2 (Ex: Laptop).
- After pairing the Neckband with device 2, Connect the first paired device with the Neckband.
- Now, both devices are connected to the Neckband.
I have tested these earphones with OPPO F21 Pro (Review), MacBook Pro, OnePlus Nord, iQOO Neo 6 5G, and realme Narzo 50 5G and did not experience any connectivity issues. All these devices connected to the earphones without any problems. These earphones support quick pairing and instantly get connected to the previously paired device if the Bluetooth of the phone is ON. Dual-device pairing also works fine when used with a phone and Mac.
Charging the earphones
- Turn Off the Neckband before charging.
- Connect the USB-C charging cable to the Neckband.
- Once you connect the USB cable to the 5V/1A power adapter, the Red LED light will be steady during charge.
- The Red LED indicator will turn off once the Neckband is fully charged.
According to pTron, using an incompatible USB cable or high voltage chargers can damage the product & void the product warranty. pTron advices to use the DC 5V/1A chargers & the USB cable included in the package.

pTron Tangent Urban performance
The pTron Tangent Urban’s audio quality is very good compared to the price offered. I tested these earphones with several genres of music, and the performance is decent. You’ll get a punchier bass with clear mids and highs when the volume is below 70%. The Vocals are also clear, and you’ll not experience any audio distortion at higher volume levels. There’s plenty of Bass you’ll definately love if you are a Bass lover.
The volume output is very loud and may affect your hearing if you use these earphones at 100% volume for a longer period of time. The Bass dominates the treble and vocals when the volume level crosses 80 to 85%. You may feel discomfort due to the excessive Bass at higher volume levels. Even though these earphones support Environmental Noice Cancellation (ENC), doesn’t work as they should.
Due to the lack of proper sound isolation, people around you can hear the audio when the volume level crosses 70%. The microphone quality is decent and works very well indoors, but it catches a noticeable amount of noise during outdoor use. The low-latency mode works fine, and I haven’t experienced any lag while watching videos on YouTube and streaming a movie on Amazon Prime.
What I like
- Comfortable neckband
- Light-weight design
- Excellent battery life
- Fast charging
- IPX4 Water-resistant
- Built-in magnets
- USB-C port
- Punchy Bass
What I don’t like
- No proper voice isolation
- Single microphone
- No USB flap
- Average voice call performance
