Just after announcing its partnership with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan to create a unique voice experience with Alexa, Amazon now launches its Smart Plug in India. Its an Alexa-powered smart plug that helps you instantly add voice control to your existing home appliances such as Televisions, Mobile chargers, lamps, table fans, sound bars etc.
Using the Amazon Smart Plug, you can add smart control to your existing appliances by pairing the smart plug with a compatible Alexa device like Echo smart speakers for hands free voice control. It can control compatible home appliances that have a physical power on/off switch and it must be connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
The Smart Plug is specially designed for Indian customers and comes with 3-pin Indian socket design, 6A power rating and a state retention feature that ensures appliances go back to their last state (on/off) in case of power outage and resumption.
Amazon Smart Plug supports a maximum load of 6A and it should not be used with heavy appliances such as AC, Geyser or Water Heater.
Amazon has also made the setup process easy and simple. All you need to do is – plug Smart Plug into an electrical socket and set it up using the Alexa app. Once connected, ask Alexa on any Echo device, Fire TV or any Alexa built-in device or the Alexa app to turn on/off the power. For example “Alexa, turn off the TV” or “Alexa, turn on lamp“.
The smart plug supports customized routines on the Alexa app to automate day-to-day activities. For example, schedule to turn off the night lamp at sunrise, create a schedule to turn on air-purifier intermittently through the day or turn on the light every evening etc. You can also control connected appliances when you’re not at home like For example, turning on the aquarium filter while not at home, or turn off the TV remotely etc.
Smart Plug is optimized for exclusive use with Alexa. It does not support other voice assistants like Google Assistant.
Amazon Smart Plug comes only in White color and priced at ₹1,999. It will be available to purchase via Amazon.in and also through Amazon kiosks in Mumbai and Bangalore as well as in select Croma & Reliance Digital outlets. Additionally, Amazon Smart Plug is available for just ₹999 when purchased as part of the bundle with Echo Dot. It comes with limited warranty of one year.
