vivo today announced the release of Funtouch OS 14, built on the foundation of Android 14, for its user base. According to vivo, Funtouch OS 14 places emphasis on enhancing memory management, multitasking prowess, customization options, privacy, and security. Additionally, it introduces a set of new video editing tools, enabling users to unleash their creativity with enhanced flexibility.

Funtouch OS 14

Smooth Envision

Smooth Envision streamlines operations by minimizing persistent processes and optimizing RAM utilization, leading to a noticeable improvement in system performance, responsiveness, and the capacity to maintain multiple active apps concurrently. The enhanced RAM Saver function contributes 600 MB of accessible RAM to devices boasting 8 GB of RAM or higher, significantly enhancing multitasking capabilities. To further enhance user convenience, a novel App Retainer feature ensures that whitelisted apps that haven’t been manually closed seamlessly return to their previous interface, enabling users to effortlessly resume from where they left off.

Certain vivo smartphone models now offer a visually enhanced smooth experience through a new feature called Motion Blur. It employs advanced algorithms to replicate the effect of motion blur when apps are opened and closed on the home screen. This software-based technique elevates the fluidity of displays operating at a 60 Hz refresh rate by an impressive 18.7%, guaranteeing exceptionally smooth visual transitions.

Enhanced Multitasking Features

Funtouch OS 14 comes with an enhanced small window feature. The improved visibility of adjustment lines makes navigation and understanding of the adjustment range much smoother. You can now maintain up to 12 small windows active in the background. Additionally, the OS supports side-swipe suspension, providing you with enhanced control. For situations like ride-hailing, simultaneous video-watching, and chatting, where you need to focus on one app while keeping an eye on another, a new non-interactive mini small window mode has been introduced. Switching between these small window modes is made effortless with a single tap.

More Personalization Options

Funtouch OS 14 comes with a range of new personalization options. Now, users have the ability to personalize the clock style displayed on their lock screen, with a selection of three different clock layout styles and eight font styles to choose from. Other notable additions are a new always-on-display style, a new minimalist theme, Monochrome theme called MY color palette, which also contributes to power saving by optimizing the display for grayscale visuals.

New Advanced Video Editing Tools

Funtouch OS 14 now comes with improved video editing tools, enabling you to create distinctive and engaging content without having to resort to external applications. You can now export videos in their original quality, supporting lossless export. You can also customize the video quality settings, including resolutions up to 4K at 60FPS.

Additionally, 25 filters have been added for easy video editing, all presented in improved thumbnails to showcase the unique effects and usage scenarios better and make it easier to choose. Moreover, Funtouch OS 14 brings forth an enhanced album browsing and viewing experience. This enables users to fine-tune video playback speed, enable loop playback, indulge in full-screen viewing, and capture screenshots as desired.

Enhanced Privacy and Security

Funtouch OS 14 comes with a Smart Mirroring feature, which enables seamless screen sharing without the concern of the notification bar inadvertently displaying personal information. Additionally, users’ confidential photos now benefit from an extra layer of security through an additional password verification step.

Funtouch OS 14 will be available for download starting mid-October on the vivo X90 series followed by other models. The rollout schedule for all models will be announced in the coming days.
