TECNO makes its entry into the foldable phone market with the debut of the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G, its inaugural flip phone, at a global launch event held in Singapore on 22 September 2023. The TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G features two screens: the Main Screen and a Cover screen referred to by TECNO as “The Planet” Personalized Versatile Cover Screen. The 6.9-inch main display has a resolution of 2640×1080 pixels and supports a 10-120Hz LTPO refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate.
The display is supported by TECNO’s self-design drop-shaped hinge and a thinner, lighter screen for improved durability. The 1.32-inch AMOLED screen is specially designed for easy one-thumb control, with convenient swiping from every angle. The screen lets you create fun displays with customizable wallpapers, Tmojis, 3D interactive virtual pets, etc. You can access the cameras for easy Swipe shots, play music, and quickly reply to messages.
The cover screen also supports Smart widgets, including the weather forecast, vitality rings, timer, sound recording, agenda, stopwatch, and alarms, so you don’t need to open/flip the phones to stay up to date. The Phantom V Flip 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8050 5G chipset coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It also supports Extended Memory (up to 8GB), Memory Anti-Aging, and Memory Slimming allowing you to further optimize the device’s performance.
The device is equipped with a 4000mAh and supports 45W Flash Charging. According to TECNO, the device goes from 0 to 50% in 15 minutes of charging and approx. 45 minutes is needed for a full recharge. TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G is TECNO’s first device to feature the new HiOS 13.5 operating system, an optimized OS based on Google’s Android 13. It supports various features such as hovering video calls, Smart widgets, ELLAGPT personal assistant, etc.
Coming to the camera, the TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G features a 64MP RGBW Ultra Sensitive main camera that supports 60% more light intake, reduced noise, and improved color accuracy, using RGBW pixel format. According to TECNO, the 64MP camera has the highest resolution of any flip phone on the market with an f/1.7 aperture and 1.6μm (4in1) pixels.
The camera sensor also supports PDAF, ISOCELL Pixel Isolation, and a Pixel Fusion Algorithm for improved low-light performance. Using TECNO’s Dual-camera Fusion technology, the 64MP main camera also works with the device’s 13MP Ultra-Wide Angle camera to take ultra wide-angle shots with rich details. For selfies, Phantom V Flip 5G comes with a 32MP Dual-flash Autofocus front camera for improved low-light performance.
The camera is even integrated with Micro-slit Dual-flash, is the industry’s first front-facing flashlight in a flip phone, which is complemented by TECNO’s Super Flashlight algorithm to create the ideal lighting with perfect exposure. The camera utilizes Automatic Eye-focus to achieve more precise subject tracking for improved clarity and detail in selfies and vlogs. The device also supports the advanced FreeCam System lets you capture images with both front and rear lenses, at any angle from 30-150˚.
The TECNO Phantom V Flip 5G comes in two colors – Mystic Dawn & Iconic Black and goes on sale in India on 1st October 2023 on Amazon India and a special early bird price of ₹49,999.
