JioPhone – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

JioPhone is a feature phone comes with many smart features such as Voice assistant, Pre-loaded apps etc. It has a 2.4″ QVGA display and also a dedicated voice assistant button to make calls, send messages, play music etc. Although Jio has made this phone official, few specifications are still unknown such as Camera, Connectivity etc.

We have composed a few Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) based on the queries received from our readers. You can find all the FAQ’s below and if you have any other queries do let us know in the comments.

• What is the price of JioPhone?

  JioPhone is effectively free, but you will have to pay the refundable security deposit of ₹ 1500. You can get a full refund of the security deposit by returning the used JioPhone after 3 years.

• Where can I buy the JioPhone?

  It will be available for user testing in beta from 15th August and Pre-booking for public opens starting from 24th August 2017. You can pre-order this device from MyJio app, Jio.com and also from Jio & Reliance Digital outlets. For those who have pre-booked, shipping begins on a first come first serve basis starting September 2017.

• Can I install third party apps and games on JioPhone?

  No, You cannot install any third party apps on JioPhone. Few apps such JioTV, JioMusic, and JioMovies will come preloaded with this phone.

• Can I use other SIM cards such as Vodafone, Airtel on JioPhone?

  No. You cannot use this device with other service providers such as Vodafone, Airtel etc. This phone works only with Jio SIM. As per our sources, you need to buy a new Jio SIM that comes bundled with every smartphone.

• Will I get the refund if I return the phone before 3 years?

  No. Refund will be initiated only after 3 years from the date of purchase. You need to submit the phone in order the get the refund of your security deposit. You will not get the refund if your phone is lost or stolen.

• Can I buy JioPhone from Online portals such as Amazon, Flipkart etc?

  As of now, it is only available through Jio Stores. There is no information on online availability.

• What is the difference between ₹ 153 and ₹ 309 plan?

  There are two monthly tariff plans. The ₹ 153 plan comes with unlimited data (500MB FUP), Calls, SMS, and Jio Apps while ₹ 309 plan has 1GB daily FUP limit with unlimited Calls, SMS, Jio Apps and screen mirroring support. Other than these two monthly packs, you can also opt for limited validity Sachet Packs – ₹ 24 and ₹ 54 with 2 and 7 days of validity respectively.

• What is Screen mirroring and how to use it?

  It is the feature of JioPhone that allows you to watch Movies and Videos on your television screen through JioPhone using a specially made JioPhone TV-Cable. It is compatible with both Smart TVs, Non-smart TVs and also CRT TVs. This feature is only available with ₹ 309 pack. Note: JioPhone TV-Cable is sold separately.

• How much data will I get if recharge with ₹ 153 or ₹ 309?

  The ₹ 153 plan allows you to use high-speed 4G data up to 500MB per day and ₹ 309 pack up to 1GB data per day. After FUP you can use unlimited data at a speed of 128kbps.

• How many languages will JioPhone support?

  JioPhone supports 22 regional languages.

• Does JioPhone support NFC?

  Yes. JioPhone does support NFC. It contains the NFC hardware but as of now, you will not be able to use it. NFC support will be activated later this year through a software update. You can use it for making wireless payments through UPI, Bank Accounts, Debit/Credit cards etc.

• Does JioPhone support Dual SIM?

  As of now the phone which is launched only supports Single SIM. As per the rumors, Jio is also launching a Dual SIM variant in coming weeks. We will update you once we receive more information about it.

• Does JioPhone support microSD card?

  Yes. JioPhone supports microSD card up to 128GB.

• Does JioPhone support FM Radio?

  Yes. It supports FM Radio.

• What is the price of JioMediaCable?

  There is no official information about the pricing of JioMediaCable. As per our sources, It will be priced somewhere between ₹ 500 to ₹ 1000.

• Does JioPhone support WiFi?

  Yes. JioPhone does support WiFi.

• Can I use my existing Jio SIM with JioPhone?

  You will get a new SIM along with the JioPhone. As our sources, you can also use your existing Jio SIM but you need to recharge with JioPhone tariff plans.

• What is the camera specifications of JioPhone?

  JioPhone comes with the 2MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera.

• How to Book JioPhone?

  Open MyJio App from your smartphone or visit Jio.com. Visit the pre-booking page and enter your Mobile number and area pin code. Complete the payment of ₹500 using Credit/Debit cards or Digital wallets. Once the payment is done, SMS with voucher details will be sent to the mobile number submitted by you. ₹500 is the pre-booking amount and it will be adjusted during the time of phone delivery. On availability of JioPhone, you will be informed about the store details from where you can collect your phone on payment of remaining deposit amount
