Hardware security keys provider Yubico announces the launch of YubiKey Bio Series with built-in Fingerprint Reader. It is the first YubiKey series that supports fingerprint recognition for secure passwordless and second-factor logins. It is available in two variants – YubiKey Bio Fido Edition with USB-A Port and YubiKey C Bio Fido Edition with USB-C Port.
The YubiKey Bio Series is specially built for biometric authentication on desktop or laptop computers and supports modern FIDO2/WebAuthn and U2F protocols. The YubiKey Bio Series features a three-chip architecture that allows the biometric fingerprint material to be stored in a separate secure element which delivers enhanced protection from physical attacks. The YubiKey Bio allows users to authenticate with the same key across multiple desktop devices, operating systems, and applications.
Just like all YubiKeys, the newly introduced Bio Series also does not require any batteries, drivers, or software. Once a YubiKey Bio is set up, users will experience secure two-actor and passwordless logins for FIDO-supported services and applications. It also supports Yubico Authenticator for Desktop app on Windows, macOS, and Linux to enroll new fingerprints, add or delete fingerprints when the native platform and browser capabilities are limited.

The YubiKey Bio is priced at $80 (Approx. INR 5,890) for the USB-A form-factor and $85 (Approx. INR 6,260) for the USB-C form-factor. It will be available to purchase from Yubico’s official website from 5th October 2021.
