Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 5.7-inch 18:9 Display, 12MP Rear Camera, Fingerprint Scanner Launched Starting at ₹7,999

Just after launching the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi has launched Redmi 5, the successor of last year’s Redmi 4 in India. Its an entry-level smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and fuelled by the Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor and a non-removable 3300mAh battery. The Redmi 5 is available in three configurations – 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage, and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. It’s a Dual SIM 4G device houses a hybrid SIM tray lets you use either two SIM cards or a Micro SIM and a microSD card.

In terms of design, it has metal unibody with rounded back edges and the fingerprint scanner is mounted on the rear side of the device. For photography, Redmi 5 has a 12MP rear camera with single LED flash and a 5MP front camera with Selfie soft light. The camera also supports various modes such as Panorama, HDR, Continuous shooting, Face recognition etc. Both front and rear cameras can shoot full HD videos at 30 frames per second. Similar to most of the Xiaomi smartphones, Redmi 5 also comes with IR Blaster that allows you to control various Home appliances such as TV, Set-top-box etc. Other key features are Dual pyrolytic graphite sheets for better thermal performance, Reinforced corners to prevent screen damage, Customized power adapter etc.

The Redmi 5 is offered in four colors – Black, Gold, Lake Blue & Rose Gold and exclusively available via Amazon.in and Mi.com starting 20th March 2018. It will also be made available across Mi Home & offline partner stores across India in the coming weeks. The 2GB/16GB variant priced at ₹7,999, 3GB/32GB at ₹8,999 and the 4GB/64GB at ₹10,999. Xiaomi is also bundling a free TPU Clear Case with every Redmi 5.
