At the company’s 41st Annual General Meeting held on July 5th, 2018, Jio had introduced the JioPhone 2 along with the availability of popular apps Youtube, Facebook, and WhatsApp. All three apps were supposed to be available to download on both JioPhone and JioPhone 2 starting 15th August. But, on 15th August, only Youtube and Facebook apps were made available to JioPhone users. Now, almost after 25 days, WhatsApp has finally started rolling out to JioPhone users in India. JioPhone runs on KaiOS and comes with the dedicated AppStore to download the 3rd party apps.
Using WhatsApp on JioPhone, you can send text messages, chat with groups, send photos or videos and also easily record & send voice messages with just a couple taps on the keypad. Similar to WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp for iOS, all the messages sent through JioPhone or JioPhone 2 are end-to-end encrypted. WhatsApp is available in the JioPhone AppStore starting 10th September 2018 and will be rolled out on all JioPhones by 20th September 2018. Reliance Retail has also created a special helpline number 1991 to answer queries on the JioPhone.
