Android Oreo Beta is Now Available for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

OnePlus has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo beta update to users who are using the OnePlus open beta software. Both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T devices with open beta software are receiving the Android Oreo beta OTA update. If you are already on a beta software, wait for the OTA update notification on your smartphone. Once you receive the update notification, download and install the update.

Note: Beta builds are not as stable as the official builds. There is always a potential risk of data loss. Also, the beta updates contain several bugs and performance issues. Know issues are listed below.

  • Fingerprint actions may be slower than you are used to
  • Shortcut to access Google Photos is unavailable
  • Some stability issues with NFC and Bluetooth
  • Performance and compatibility of 3rd party apps will continue to be optimized

How to move back to Android Nougat Beta?

If you have decided to move back to the last Open Beta N (Android Nougat) you will need to flash the special build provided below. Follow the below steps to move back to Android N Beta.

  • Take a full backup of your smartphone. It will help you in case of any data loss
  • Download the special build – OnePlus 3 (OBT 24), OnePlus 3T (OBT 15)
  • Copy the downloaded build to device’s Internal storage
  • Reboot your phone into recovery mode. To do this, shut down your device and turn it back on while holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously
  • Choose “Install from Local” and select the downloaded build to install

Things to remember

  1. If you are already on the latest Open Beta, you will receive this new Android Oreo build as an OTA update. There is no special process required. Download the OTA update an install it.
  2. If you are not running open beta software and would like to opt in, Follow this official tutorial from OnePlus to flash your device.
  3. Once you migrate to the open beta, you will receive future beta updates as OTA and you will no longer receive the regular Official stable OTA updates.
  4. If you want to move back to the Official OTA path from the open beta, follow the same tutorial and flash your device with the Stable ROM. Once you are done, you will receive only stable OTA updates. This process requires a full install and clean flash. So before beginning the flashing process, take a full backup of your smartphone.
