Entry-level Nokia 2 was first introduced in October 2017 Globally with Android Nougat out of the box followed by the India launch in November 2017. In June 2018, Nokia had announced Android 8.1 Oreo Beta program through the Nokia Phones Beta Labs program. Its been almost 6-months since the beta announcement and now, Juho Sarvikas, Chief product officer HMD has revealed the status of the stable update.
According to Juho, there is no way to move a device that launched with Android to Android Go Edition. Nokia has also worked closely with Google & Qualcomm to enable Android 8.1 Oreo for Nokia 2. But, Android Oreo requires more system resources compared to Android Nougat resulting in UI lag on Nokia 2.
Now, Nokia has confirmed that it will be giving two options for Nokia 2 users. Those who need a better UI experience can stay with the existing Android Nougat OS. Those who want new features with Android 8.1 Oreo can request Android Oreo update through a web page which will go live shortly.
