Xiaomi Mi A1 Android 8.0 Oreo Problems and Solutions: Dialer App Delay, Location Icon Bug

Mi A1 is the first AndroidOne smartphone from Xiaomi which was introduced in September 2017 with Android Nougat out of the box. As per the promise made during the launch, the company had also released the Android 8.0 Oreo update on 31st December 2017. Although the update includes various features and performance improvements, there are few bugs/issues that are making the user experience poor especially issues such as Dialer Lag, Location Icon bug etc. You can find major Mi A1 Android 8.0 Oreo problems with possible solutions below.

1. Mi A1 Dialer Lag Issue

After the Android Oreo update, Phone Dialer (Google Phone App) is not working properly. If you dial someone, the Dialer hangs and will not let you dial again for few seconds. The Dialer screen will go blank or the in-call control will not display. It may take up to 20 seconds to get back to its normal state. Even restarting the phone or clearing the app data will not help.

Update (Solution 2) – As per Xiaomi, MyJio application is causing ANR when a call is being made or received and hence the issue. The issue is seen when MyJio app is being present with all app permissions granted. So uninstall the MyJio app or disable the permission to access Telephone. Go to Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App info -> MyJio -> Permissions -> Disable Telephone permission.

2. Mi A1 Location Icon Bug

Location or GPS Icon on the notification bar stays even if the location is off. Means, when you open an app which requires access to Location such as Google Maps, Ola, Uber etc, the location icon stays at navigation bar even after closing the app or turning off the location. This happens only when the Night Light Mode is set to Sunset to Sunrise. You can get rid off the location icon by restarting the phone or by following the below method.

  • Give the Location access
  • Close the app or turn off the location which removes the location icon from the notification bar
