After testing over the past few months Jio finally announced the launch of nation-wide Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) and Video over WiFi (ViWiFi) service. Using these services Jio users will be able to make crystal-clear voice and video calls using existing Jio number through WiFi at no additional cost. In order to be eligible for Wi-Fi Calling, you need to have a smartphone that supports WiFi Calling and also an active Jio tariff plan. You can even make WiFi calling during roaming.
Both VoWiFi and VoWiFi works on any WiFi network, anywhere in India and supports over 150 smartphones. Check out the list of supported smartphones here. Additionally, the voice and video calls will seamlessly switch-over between VoLTE and WiFi to provide an enhanced voice/video-calling experience. Jio WiFi Calling will be enabled pan-India between 7th January and 16th January 2020.
How to enable Jo VoWiFi and ViWiFi
- Android – Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Mobile Network -> Enable VoWiFi
- iOS – Settings -> Phone -> WiFi-Calling -> Enable the switch
