Google launches its much-anticipated Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones at an event held in New York. Both are successors of last year’s Pixel 3 series and comes with multiple upgrades. In terms of design, both devices look almost identical and also share the same set of specifications except for the Display size and the Battery capacity. Google Pixel 4 sports a 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 2,800mAh battery and Pixel 4 XL has a bigger 6.3-inch Quad HD+ OLED display and a 3,700mAh battery. Both devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with 6GB RAM onboard. There are storage options – 64GB and 128GB with 6GB RAM on both.

Another notable change is the absence of a fingerprint scanner. Both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL don’t include the fingerprint scanner, instead, these come with an Enhanced Face Unlock technology. Powered by Google’s Project Soli, the Face Unlock features proactively turns on the face unlock sensors and recognizes the person. Once the right face is detected, the phone will open instantly without any need to swipe up the home screen or any other activity. Face unlocking works in almost any orientation even if you’re holding the phone upside down. Google has also confirmed that the images used for face unlock and Soli sensor data are securely stored or processed on the Pixel 4 itself and never saved or shared with other Google services.

Another key highlight of the Pixel 4 series is the Motion Sense powered by a motion-sensing radar called Soli. This feature allows you to Skip songs, Snooze alarms, and Silence phone calls just by waving your hand. One of the major editions to the Pixel 4 series compared to the Pixel 3 series is the Dual camera module on the rear side. The setup includes a 12MP standard camera and a 16MP telephoto camera and also a dedicated Depth sensor to record the depth information. Over to front, both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL equipped with an 8MP selfie camera. Coming to the software, both devices run on the latest Android 10 and will receive a minimum of 3-years of OS and security updates.
