Asus Started Rolling Out of Android 8.0 Oreo Update for Zenfone 3 Series Smartphones

The Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for its popular Zenfone 3 series smartphones. Currently, Only two devices – ZenFone 3 5.2 (ZE520KL) and ZenFone 3 5.5 (ZE552KL) are receiving the update. You will get the notification once the update hits your device. If you did not receive the notification automatically then Go to Settings -> System updates and tap on Check for updates. The update size is about 1.5GB and the device should have at least 1.5GB of free space on the Internal storage before starting the software update.

The Android Oreo update for Zenfone 3 comes with various features, performance improvement along with the ZenUI 4.0. The ZenUI 4.0 has various features such as Twin app functionality, SOS, Page Marker etc. As per Asus, this update will reduce the booting time and also extends the battery life by intelligently minimizing the unnecessary activities of application in the background of the device. The company also planning to release the update for other Zenfone 3 and Zenfone 4 devices in the coming months.

Things to remember
  • To be on a safer side, take a complete backup of your smartphone before initiating the update
  • Make sure the battery is full (At least 50% or above)
  • You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update
  • Rooted users will not be able to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update
